Short Story - The Club-footed Lord

Very Short Story - The Club-footed Lord
(This Short Story blog article falls into Short, Funny, Hilarious, Thrilling, Offbeat, Quick to Read Stories category as per author.)

No it was not any mishap, he was born like this. This was a congenital deformity which made him part of all sorts of doggerel his classmates used brazenly when he was in school.

Forgiveness was integral part of his virtue and in fact it was not the forgiveness but the highest level of tranquility he possessed which made him stand-out. As a matter of fact, he had to never forgive anyone who used foul words against him or were calling names, because he never found it hurting. And on top of that, you may see him helping the same guy who was trying to tease him hours before.

There was a tobacconist's shop near his house which will always be teeming in with people, any time of the day. People who came there, smoking cigarettes and chewing betel, took no less interest in this boy if found outside his house. They will make fun of his deformity and they will even not hesitate to say any kind of profanity which this little boy even did not understand. He just gives a seraphic smile to those people and goes inside the house.

One day in the evening, one ragamuffin came to the tobacconist shop and the boy was playing in the yard of his house. Ragamuffin found it immensely amusing, to badger this boy with the posture of a hobbler; but boy look completely unperturbed as though he was completely oblivious of that ragamuffin’s activity.

When the ragamuffin could not pester the little boy he started to leave the place. He was in a dilapidated scooter (which did not have any silencer and except horn every thing used to sound), but the way he was driving was displaying the enormous proud of a person in possession of Honda CBR.

The ragamuffin was making some stunts in his scooter to snag attentions of the people around. But, in the corner of the road he fishtailed and careened into the road side ditch. The boy went running inside the house.

When the ragamuffin opened his eye, he found, people around him were laughing at him. The club-footed boy was standing beside him holding a jug full of water in his hand. The boy asked, “Are you all right? Please have some water”.

Very Short Story - The Job Satisfaction of a Thief

Very Short Story - The Job Satisfaction of a Thief -
(This Short Story blog article falls into Short, Funny, Hilarious, Thrilling, Offbeat, Quick to Read Stories category as per author.)

“What a fecund day (rather night)!!!....” he thought. This had been a better job than his full time day job. He started this as his avocation but now it was his sole bread earning job. He did not want to opt for this but the circumstances were gravitating him towards this. How could he say to his off springs what he does for his earning? How will he teach them to do good things, to inculcate values in them?

It is getting too much….. Everyone will agree that hunger comes first than the values. Also, if he could hide somehow from the society (including his own loved ones) what he does for the social security; he still can have safe way.

He was reminiscing about his old day when he was a daily-wage laborer and used to work hard for 12-14 hours each night, returning morrow back home to face his cantankerous wife. Now he finds his wife’s disposition had got changed with change of his JOB. She might have clue on his new JOB, but she never raised it…. May be she was least bothered, how he earns the livelihood for his family.

Today (Tonight) he had barged into one of the houses of the plush society, not very far from the ghetto he lived in. The house was deserted for last few days and he has been picketing this house for last 6 days. No activities at all… This was like cake walk for him. He jimmied in from the backside door of the house to find that things were at sixes and sevens. This indicating that the owner was not in the country itself….. Still suspecting, looking for any telltale sign, he was tip-toeing from the veranda to the kitchen abutting the veranda. After getting his eyes set in, he sidled from kitchen to the other side juxtapose room. No One there…. No sign of life… so he had been accurate in his judgment…

After that how could he break into vault and got all the jewelry etc was just a fairy-tale story. (Although breaking into vault was not easy but he had all the time on earth to do his job.)

Cramming all jewelries into his lather bag, he looked completely satisfied and like icing on cake, there was good amount of cash also in the vault. This is called serendipity. Once done with the clean sweeping, he hightailed from that place and was moving cautiously from one block to another block. He was lost in his thought thinking that the night could not have been better than this. There was still some time for dawn, and may be it was his lucky night, so he thought of the other house he had thought of paying visit one of these days.

Quickly he took turn to his right and started moving fast towards the next target. After reaching in front of the house he could not wait anymore and started sidling surreptitiously from the side wall of the house toward the back of the house. After he reached beneath one window, he heard some sounds and that transfixed him right there as he did not expected this.

This was a voice of people talking in hush-hush voice. He thought of urgency of fleeing pronto, but something stopped him. He felt like his ears were glued to the wall beneath the window and he was eavesdropping to hear what this people might be talking in hush-hush voice so late in the night.

Female voice: “How would you manage this, even this house has already been pawned for last time loan you took for badhaki’s marriage.”

Male voice: “Do not worry, I will do something. I know Lord Siva is there to help us. Now get some sleep. You have not slept one wink since last 2 night because of this tension… it is not good for your health.”

Female voice(slightly waspish): “But how can I sleep… Don’t be foolish…. Do not expect that Lord Siva will incarnate for you on earth in this kalyug and will raise his hand to rain all the money we need.”

Male Voice (Much annoyed, although hushed, but it was like he was suffocating to break loose): “SO WHAT SHOULD I DO…”

Female voice (sobbing): “If you had not squandered all that money in all those temples and beggars outside, we would have not seen this day. Atleast we would have been better off.”

He was listening to all this and was thinking “what appears from outside is not always true from inside”… He used to think that all the people of this area must be well off, at least not facing this kind of pecuniary problem. The male voice and female voice was still there but he was not interested in listening anymore.

He quickly moved from the place to go back home and catch some Z’s. While moving he was contemplating all he heard. Suddenly he took turn and then moved to the back of the same house where he was hearing the voices. He hurled his lather bag towards the backyard of the house. It made a muffled thumping sound and the moment he heard the sound he sprinted towards his house with a smile on his face. After all, he still can inculcate good values in his younger ones.

Very Short Story - The Frequent Dream

Very Short Story - The Frequent Dream
(This
Short Story blog article falls into Short, Funny, Hilarious, Thrilling, Offbeat, Quick to Read Stories category as per author.)

Innumerable times he would have seen the similar dream and wake up in the morning feeling so happy. He would try to verify if whatever he saw in his dream, had become real by any chance. He will spread his hands parallel to his body and will close his eyes and will try to annul the law of nature. Every time he became unsuccessful in the realization of his dream, he became more optimistic.
Earlier he used to tell everyone about his dream but then he realized no one paid any attention to that and everyone tried to stall him. Although science has advanced so much these days but he wanted all these to happen without usage of any human invented science. He even used to read about hypnotism and telepathy and was obsessed to have those talents within him but those things came always secondary to what he dreams the most.
After all, if asked, what he wants to achieve by doing so, he himself did not know the answer but all he wanted was, one day this dream to come true.
If you ask him who his super hero was?? He will certainly say “David Blaine”. One day on one of the TV networks, he saw David Blaine performing exactly the same thing as part of street show and that was the day, he knew it is going to happen one day for him also and after that the frequency of this dream had increased.
What was his dream about???
Survey says this is the most common dream for a human.
I hope, by this time, you would have found out what is this dream about. If not, then may be it’s time to take a nap.

Short Story- The Road Rage

Very Short Story - The Road Rage
(This Short Story blog article falls into Short, Funny, Hilarious, Thrilling, Offbeat, Quick to Read Stories category as per author.)

He was driving his new SUV not at very fast pace and was in very good mood as he was playing his favorite album on car stereo. After last night’s jamboree, he was coming back to his home. The morning zephyr was feeling so good from car’s open window. The day was perfect for a long drive, so he decided on taking a detour to his home and was moving on the outer ring road of the city which allowed him to eschew all the morning time traffic of the city. He was lost in the thought and was not aware of occasional overtakes of the vehicles coming from the behind. He was in no mood to compete with any of those tearaways, which was preternatural for his behavior. He reached to one point on the road which appeared to be a cul-de-sac from a distance but was actually a blind 90 degree turn and probably the most dangerous junction on that outer ring road for no median on that part of the road. Vehicles should be very slow on this part of the road, as road side sign also indicates and forewarns about the dangerous section; Any vehicle coming fast from the opposite side can very well slew and get into the other side of the road and that’s what exactly happened when he reached that junction. A car came from opposite direction almost running into his SUV. He could see there was only one person inside the car (the driver)and that driver did not bother to apologize for his mistake, and that made his even more incensed. The other car continued as if nothing had happened and this was enough for him to get upset. He steered his SUV to make a U-turn and was raged so much that he started following that car. Lots of thoughts were coming in his mind and he was a well built guy with more than 6 feet height. He thought of stopping the car by overtaking it and then stopping in front of the car. He had decided to give the driver his comeuppance by thrashing him properly. He realized that car driver would have seen him following and that’s why the car is now moving at higher speed. He could not accept his defeat and was full with road-rage; accelerated his SUV to reach to top speed.
There might be a common occasions of death following the victim but there would certainly be very rare occasions of death running away but the victim following him from behind. The SUV overtook the car at last and stopped immediately in front of the car, forcing the car driver to jam his car’s brake. With the screeching sound the car stopped just 10 inch away from the rear bumper of the SUV. He could see from the windshield of the car that the driver was hardly five and half feet, slender guy; looking benign to him at that point of time. He had decided to teach a proper lesson to this two bit guy. He moved close to the driver door of the car but realize a dead body lying in the rear of the car soiled with blood all over the cloth. Before he could understand anything the shot gun’s muzzle was on his temple. All he could remember, before hearing the shot of the gun, was a display placard somewhere on the same road stating “Anger is one letter away from Danger.

Short Story - Success Never Happens By Chance

Short Story - Success Never Happens By Chance
(This
Short Story blog article falls into Short, Funny, Hilarious, Thrilling, Offbeat, Quick to Read Stories category as per author.)

Mamta was filled with ennui and thought of taking a break. Sitting in the office lounge, she was glancing perfunctory through the pages of one of the bussiness magazine and suddenly was astonished to see the article published about one of the wunderkinds who appeared to be somewhat known to her. The article was talking about the success of Lokesh Rathore with
the heading "Journey From Hovel to Mansion". He looked very smart in the photograph, printed alongwith the article and only word which came to her mind was "ugly duckling". She started reading the article of the magazine from the beginning. She realized that Lokesh was not only a successful person now, but was also a trail-blazer for a new bussiness trend in the country.
While reading the article she got lost in olden days, around 12 years back. Lokesh was an ordinary and unobtrusive student in the class. His father was a post-man and was hardly able to afford Lokesh's school fee and books with his meagre salary. Mamta have been a better student of the class and was also a good looking girl and she belonged to a higher middle class family. One day she had become late in returning home from school, as she was sitting in the library, she did not realize the it was twilight. She thought that her parents would be restive at home as she never became so late anytime before. She was scurrying through the steps of library and realized Lokesh was standing there, looking little pre-occupied. She passed by him but heard his voice from the behind. She turned back to see if he had called her and found Lokesh moving towards her and was looking into somekind of quandry. He quickly passed through her, coming from back, dropping a letter in her hand without saying a word. Mamta was baffled and not a single word came out of her mouth. By the time she could understand a thing, he had walked away and had vamoosed. Mamta could not dare to open the letter right there, so she folded the letter and slid inside one of the books, she was holding in her hand. By the time she reached home, her parents were standing outside the home and were looking little agitated. She said sorry to her dad and explained how she did not realize, sitting in the library, that it became so late. Atleast by seeing her okay, her parents became pacified. Mamta moved in quickly, she was finding each minute so interminable and was eager to read the letter, which was dropped in her hand few minutes back. After ablution as per her wont, she moved into her room. Her hands were shaking and she was feeling mixed kind of emotions which could be pot-pourri of fear, excitement, anger and some different kinds of attavistic feelings.

The letter contents were:

"Hi Mamta,

I do not know what kind of feeling I have for you, but I keep thinking of you all these days and I am not able to focus on my studies. Would you like to be my friend?

Yours

Lokesh"

Reading the letter Mamta looked clueless and she was infuriating; may be, she had expected something else in that letter.... something more. The days went by, but Mamta could realize that sometimes Lokesh's eye were fixate on her. She started avoiding him anyway, as she found no interest in him; and sometimes she went beyond attiquettes, when she turned to different route when she saw Lokesh coming from front.

The final exams of that acedemic year were over and the results were awaited. It was one of crux for the students, as they has to select the subjects from next year onwards among science, arts and commerce; and all this was purly based on individual's performace in this exam for limited number of seats. Science was most preferred followed by commerce and arts.

At last the result was out, and to everyone's surprise, Mamta passed summa cum laude. Lokesh could manage to get the first division, but was not able to get into science stream. Mamta opted for Science as expected and Lokesh had to satisfy with commerce. Now they seldom got to see each other for the subjects and classes were different for both of them. Mamta was doing good in her subjects and she enjoyed mathematics a lot and decided to prepare for engineering college entrance exams.

One day on her way to class, she came across Lokesh who as waiting in the similar fasion, as the other day in front of library. She was accomponied by four of her classmates and she was least expecting Lokesh to make any move, which will embrass her, among her friends. Lokesh came forward, standing in front of them; his eye little dewy. Without any preamble, he started
saying,"Mamta, I am in love with you and I want to be yours forever. Whenever I close my eyes, I see you. You are the one, whose thoughts keep me haunting every single moment of the day-". Before he could say anything else, Mamta was so flabbergasted to face all these, in presence of her friends, that she bursted unexpectedly. She snubbed Lokesh for his behavior and also rebuked his dishevelled and bedraggled appearance. without bothered to look for Lokesh reaction she moved ahead with her friends towards her class. Mamta never saw Lokesh again after that, and sometimes she felt extremely discontented with her behavior for that day when she had snubbed Lokesh.

This was very critical year for Mamta as she had to prepare for entrance exam for various enginnering colleges and she was leaving no stone unturned, to get into the most esteemed enginnering college of her state. The most awaited dream of her, came true when she received the letter from the enginnering college, confirming her admission, which she was yearning for.

All those years in the enginnering college went by very quickly and Mamth came out with flying colors. She got placed into one of the fortune 500 company for her first job and her joy knew no boundries after that. She started her professional career and was working very hard to learn all the nuances of her field.

Suddenly, Mamta got jolted back to the present, by the ring of her cellphone. Sunita was on the other side of call and was looking very perky. When Mamta asked her about the reason, she mentioned that she got a good hike in her job and a promotion too. Although Sunita was Mamta's bosom friend and they had been together since their childhood and all the while during their school days, but still Mamta was not feeling the happiness in her friends success, as she used to feel before; and the reason was, Mamta was still thinking about Lokesh. Sunita also knew Lokesh, as her house was close to Lokesh's house and Mamta was sure if she fretted little about Lokesh, Sunita will be more than happy to tell all the story. Mamta asked Sunita to meet over coffee after office hours in JSB cafe which was very famous place in the town and Sunita obliged to Mamta's proposal.
Evening, after office both of them met at the designated place. After congratulating Sunita on her success, they got into desultory conversation. Suddenly, Mamta mentioned Sunita about how she came across a article in bussiness magazine talkling about Lokesh's success but Sunita did not comment.

Mamta asked her "How did he become so lucky to get there?"

Sunita said solemnly, " He was not lucky, he made his way through this with sheer hardwark and dedication".

She added, "Success Never Happens By Chance, and who would better know it, than you".

And see started telling Lokesh's story to Mamta.......
"Lokesh got into a commerce graduation college which was not very renowned one. During his first year of the college, his father died of Intracerebral hemorrhage. There was no other bread earner in his family and Lokesh was the eldest son of the family followed by one sister, four years younger to him and then one brother 7 years younger to him. Lokesh started doing the
part time job in one of the printing press. Due to the job, he was not able to attend the classes regularly and as a result of this he was not allowed to appear in the final exam. Leaving the job was not possible for Lokesh, so he decided to appear as private candidate in the exam, to get her graduation degree. He worked hard for three years of graduation as he had to strike a balance
between family's need and his career. On his graduation day, his mother died of tuberclosis; he was left despaired. He later worked as actuary after his graduation, in one of the shops in city market. After coming back from his job in the night, he used to study hard, in order to get into a good MBA institute. He could not make it through, in his first attempt; but he did not give-up and his tenacity was worth praising as he finally got into one of the most esteemed MBA college. For his MBA, he took education loan and was also working part-time to feed the family and take care of his youngers. After completion of his MBA, he started working with a small firm and the whole world's economy was going through the depression and job opportunites were very less. But he worked hard to learn tricks of the trade and after couple of years he stared his own small chemical industry with the loan provided by bank. But as the ill luck would have it, that chemical plant was smithereens by the fire caused by some accident. But he was determined to break the jinx and after that with lots of struggle he reached where you see him today. So now you know how lucky he had been -"
Mamta interuppted Sunita, "Do you have his phone number??".
